2021 is the first year of China's "14th Five-Year Plan" and a turning point for the cosmetics industry.

2021 is the first year of China's "14th Five-Year Plan" and a turning point for the cosmetics industry. In the past two years, the competition in the cosmetics industry has intensified, coupled with the increasingly strong momentum of environmental protection, many enterprises have actively or passively joined the cause of environmental protection, while seeking a way out for their own sustainable development, they have also contributed to the environment.

For example, Arcade Beauty, a manufacturer of beauty products, has recently announced the development of a recyclable PE (polyethylene) bag for L'Oréal's beauty brand L'Oréal Paris. Coincidentally, last week, L'Oréal announced that it will launch an innovative cosmetic bottle, which is scheduled to go into production in 2025.

Combined with the "environmental actions" of other brands, Xiaobian found that replacing packaging materials is the way they usually respond, such as using dissolvable packaging, recyclable plastics, etc.

Previously, foreign media reported that some brands have developed the technology of using bacterial cellulose to make plastic instead of packaging paper for cosmetics. Bacterial cellulose, also known as "microbial cellulose", has good biological adaptability and degradability, and is a technology to reduce environmental pollution.

It can be seen that packaging environmental protection is an inevitable trend in the development of cosmetics, and it is also an important technology for brands to enhance their competitiveness. In fact, in addition to packaging, we can also start from raw materials, processes, logistics, etc.

HERA, for example, has improved its formula to be more environmentally friendly. One of the things is that the flagship product, HERA Black Gold Long-Lasting Foundation, is sustainably grown and produced with palm oil certified by the Roundtable of Suatainable palm Oil (RSPO).

In addition, Procter & Gamble's deodorant brand Old Spice has a deodorant called Clean water, whose carton packaging is made of recycled paper and uses a "push-up" design to reduce weight. The product's packaging is made from 90% post-consumer recycled materials, and it is said that it is also the most environmentally friendly product among P&G's men's grooming products to date.

We know that reducing carbon emissions is a direct solution, so if the whole process of logistics and transportation is decarbonized, the burden on the environment will be greatly reduced. For example, Amorepacific's brands have significantly reduced the use of cushioning materials, shifted to inflatable airbags instead of foam, and replaced conventional tapes with plant-based fiber tapes that can degrade naturally in a short period of time. Compared to before, the packaging and transportation process alone is much more environmentally friendly.

All in all, environmental protection has become a hot topic of discussion today, and today's consumers, in order to express their support for environmental protection, basically have a "good feeling" for this type of cosmetics. Therefore, no matter the size of your business, it is always right to use more dim sum when it comes to environmental issues!
